Buy or DIY Wedding Invitations

Ideas that click and add Inspiration! If you are going to do your own wedding invitations, escort cards, save the dates, wedding programs, menu cards, you may want to consider weighing time and cost of ink, and having a few extras of everything in case of errors and for practice. Also making sure that cards and envelopes fit and can run through your printer smoothly without damage.

You can use templates for your wedding stationary. You can find free templates online, or if you already have Microsoft word in your computer, you are set. There are inexpensive software programs that will make it easier for you to format your wedding invitations, wedding programs, etc.

Having an idea of what's available when it comes to wedding stationary, will help you simplify the process of either ordering your wedding invitations, programs, etc, or making them yourself. There are so many choices when designing your wedding invitations, like deciding whether to buy or diy, and what style and color will be best for you.

Wedding Invitation Styles: tea length, pocket, single, photo, folded, die cut, landscape, textured, themed, two sided, recycled

* Choosing a wedding invitation that is on a smooth lightweight card stock, will be cheaper than a heavyweight. ( Difference between thick and thin card)

Wedding Invitation Folds: Z fold horizontal or vertical (accordion style), tri-fold (ends fold over your middle panel), fan fold, pocket fold, top fold, side fold, gate fold (side panels fold in like a gate, covering your middle panel), double gate (gate panels are folded twice)

Finishes for your Wedding Invitations: Matte, Glossy, Metallic, Satin, Velvet

Overlays for your Wedding Invitations: Overlays go on top of your wedding invitation. You could have a photo overlay, translucent vellum attached with ribbon, floral overlay, themed overlay, like butterflies if that's your theme, decorative paper, transparent paper

Wedding Invitation Edge Styles: scalloped, feathered, deckle, frayed, edged with color

* A single card (one panel that doesn't fold, words printed on front) wedding invitation can be layered or stacked style with translucent vellum or paper, a single pocket, or can be finished with ribbon that is wide or thin, sheer, satin, or personalized. Some wedding invitation companies may offer you a digital version of your wedding invitation that you choose, so you can use it on your engagement announcement, save-the dates, and more.

Envelope Styles: Lined with foil, in color you choose, translucent, pochette (petal style)

* Plain envelopes without a liner will be cheaper. You can add liner yourself.

Inner & Outer Envelopes

Outer envelopes will your protect your wedding invitation from marks while being in route to your wedding guest through the mail. Your outer envelope will be sealed so the inner envelope flap will not need adhesive to be sealed. Place invitation printed side facing up inside inner envelope

Envelope Seals: wax or peel and stick, personalized, square, round, rhinestone, monogram, embossed, theme shapes
Themed Seals: butterfly - sea shell - calla lily flower

* Unique Carousel Cakes, so pretty, must see!!!

Save The Date: A reminder for your wedding quest, so they will have time to prepare for your wedding, especially if you are having a destination wedding, or your wedding is on, before, or after a holiday. Mail them 6 months before your wedding.

Escort Cards: Escort cards are placed in alphabetical order (so your wedding guest can see them easily) on a table near entrance of your wedding reception. You can also hang them from props like a crystal tree used as a centerpiece. Escort cards, escort your guest to their table that you assigned them too. The escort card will have your guest name on the front, and inside will be the table number. There are many options for escort cards. Some cheap, but some also on the higher end. For inexpensive escort cards, you could use blank stand alone cards, run them through your printer, using your favorite font and ink color from your wedding color scheme. This next option will cost a little more because you won't be doing it yourself, you will need to order them, or bring to a printing company. Let's use shells for your beach wedding as an example. On the top of the shells will be the name of your wedding guest. When they turn the shell over, their table number will be on the inside. They will keep this as a token or wedding favor from your wedding, having the escort card doubling as a wedding favor.

Place Cards: Place cards hold the place for your guest to sit. There are decorative place card holders you can use, like frames, snowflake shaped holders, butterfly place card holders, leaves, seashells and every wedding theme you could think of.

Wedding Programs: On the front of your wedding program you can put your photo, time, date and where your wedding is taking place, or if you prefer, you can choose to list it inside the program. On the inside you will list the order of everything that is to take place, and names of who will be doing what, list of your wedding party and their roles. List who will be reading a certain scripture, who is singing what song. List these thing in the order that they will happen. List dedications and explanations. List memorials and thank you's, and where your wedding reception will be held.

Menu Cards: options of wedding menu templates, wedding menu ideas, and etiquette. List food and beverage, or choices of food and beverage. If serving a 3 course meal, list appetizer, main course and then dessert. You can list name and date at the top of your wedding menu and decorate with ribbon or a decorative border design.

Order: Place your order 6 months before your wedding date, for your wedding invitations. Proofread invitation wording carefully before approving and confirming your order. 1 wedding invitation per family, not per person. Your wedding invitations should be mailed to your wedding guest 6 weeks before your wedding

Remember, nothing is set in stone, cross the threshold, be creative and incorporate your personality. This is your wedding and moment to shine!
